It is essential to find a quiet space to study. That means a place free from noise and distractions, with everything you need on hand to avoid having to constantly get up. Of course, switching off your mobile phone is advisable, or at least putting it on silent.

Though the best place is your own bedroom (if tidy), the best place will always be the library.

After finding a place to study, the next step is to organize yourself with everything you need for studying. Planning a schedule with the times dedicated to studying each subject is advisable. This way, substituting subjects you are least fond of for those you prefer will no longer be an option. Plus, studying won't be as tiresome and you'll feel more motivated.

One of the most common mistakes when it comes to studying, which must be tackled so that we study more efficiently, is not understanding the subjects. Before preparing for an exam, you must be wholly satisfied that you understand everything you need to remember, because failing to do this will be pointless. Thus, talking it through with your teacher, or somebody else who can explain it to you, is essential. Learning something parrot-fashion is, ultimately, useless.

Once you understand the subject, one of the easiest ways to learn is by means of diagrams. To do this, first highlight the notes and discern what's important and what's irrelevant. Furthermore, mnemonic tricks will also help a lot. These are strategies for linking concepts with words, phrases and images.

Reward yourself: without doubt, studying requires willpower. One of the best ways to motivate yourself is to give yourself simple and satisfying rewards. They can be as simple as setting the alarm every hour or taking a five minute break; checking your mobile phone once you've learnt a certain topic; getting up to have a snack when you've finished a subject... This way, studying won't be as tiresome.

6

Another way to get motivated studying to to have a positive approach to the situation. Think of all the good things that will happen if you pass the exam, surround yourself by pictures or objects that remind you of happy times and play music that you know will always lift your spirits.

However, this is not a good idea if you are someone that gets distracted easily.
