Steps to follow:

1

There must be a balance between what you like and what you can do. For example, you could excel at science subjects, but if you do not like it very much, pursuing it can be an ordeal. Although normally, we are good at what we like, don't forget to take this point as a first step to choose a degree.

2

Think of the professions this degree could lead to. You need to study something you like and what you see yourself working in in the future, but if you can't work in it, why bother? So it's better to look for another option might also like. For example, you may like animals but, do you know what you can do with a marine biology degree, what about a zoology degree?

Once you have assessed the outcome, you may end up with the conclusion that what you like can be turned into more of a hobby than a career or, who knows, it may actually turn into your modus vivendi.

3

Calculate the price of the degree and if it is affordable for you and your family. Think that there are degrees that need a lot of extra material which is very expensive, usually science; but they are also usually better paid at the end. At this point you should also determine if you have the opportunity to study at a public or private university.

You should also assess the amount of work you will need to put into your studies, as you could get a side hustle to pay for the tuition fees.

Don't get frustrated if you don't have the marks you need to get into the degree you wanted, there are other ways of studying what you like and other ways to get into university too. Get some good counselling by your tutor to know the options available in your country.

Finally, think about the salary you are likely to have. Although you never know, because some degree cycles are more demanding than others. As always it depends on supply and demand. Take a look at the difference between what college graduates earn compared to non graduates.

If you start a degree and don't like it, don't worry you're not the first person this has happened to. If you don't like college life, take a look at how to tell your parents you don't want to go to college.
